Our Lady of the Lake College is an independent, independent Catholic institution located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. It is sponsored by the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady of the Province of North America. It started in 1923 as the School of Nursing Our Lady of the Lake to educate students to serve as health care providers. In 1995, a year after receiving full accreditation from the Association of Colleges and Southern Schools (SACS) as a degree institution, the university was renamed Our Lady of the Lake College. SACS granted the authority to award a bachelor's degree in 1998, master's master-degree authority in 2005, and awarded a doctorate in early 2015.
The college has approximately 1700 students enrollment. It offers associate, undergraduate, and master's degrees in programs such as nursing, health sciences, humanities, behavioral sciences, and arts and sciences.

History
Our Lady of the Lake College has evolved from Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing, founded in 1923 by the Franciscan Missionary of Our Lady. The Nursing School begins with the founding of Our Lady of the Lake Sanitarium in the Lake Capitol area in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Schools are an integral part of the new hospital service program to the community.
Five students from St. Francis Sanitarium in Monroe, Louisiana, forms the first class core of nine students. The students live, attend classes and care for patients in hospitals facing Capitol Lake. After completing three calendar years of education, students are awarded a diploma in nursing.
The curriculum was revised over the years to combine advances in medical science, nursing science, nursing practice and nursing education. In 1960, in response to changes in public health needs and prevailing nursing shortages, the Nursing School was the first school in the South to revise its curriculum by shortening its program from three calendar years to 27 consecutive months. Recruitment to the diploma program is improved, enrollment increases and Schools continue to grow.
During the 1970s, major changes began to occur in the student population. Along with the decline of residential students, there is a gradual but continuous increase in the number of non-traditional students (23 years and older) seeking admission to nursing programs. Toward the end of the decade, the School of Nursing became a commuter school and no longer offered housing on campus. This coincided with the relocation of the Regional Medical Center Lady of the Lake to his site in Essen Lane.
Further developments in the field of academic programming began in the 1980s and 1990s. In response to the current trends in nursing and licensing education, faculty began exploring options for positioning nursing education in college settings. In 1989, the process reached a peak with the decisions of the Franciscan Sisters and the administration of a medical center to switch to a higher education institution with a bachelor's degree. In May 1990, Our Lady of the Lake College of Nursing and Allied Health was registered with the Louisiana Secretary of State and Louisiana Board of Regents. In the next few years, the College begins offering Associate of Science degrees in radiology technology and general studies, in addition to nursing. In July 1995, the College was officially renamed Our Lady of the Lake College.
The late 1990s and early years of the new millennium were an exciting time for expansion into the College. In 1998, the College was approved as a Carnegie Level II institution to offer a baccalaureate degree. In 2005, the College was given approval for a master's degree program in nursing anesthesiology, nursing and physician assistant studies.
In February 2006, Dr. Sandra S. Harper joined the college as president. In 2007, he led the reorganization of the College's academic program which resulted in two schools: School of Arts, Science and Health Professions and School of Nursing. Most recently in 2009, the College participated in a comprehensive reaffirmation of institutional accreditation studies, leading to some reorganization of undergraduate programs and the development of a strong core curriculum. Harper left Our Lady of the Lake College in August 2013 to head the McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. Dr. Tina Holland was elected president in April 2014. Shortly after, the College will become a University.
