The Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) is a post-graduate degree awarded after the successful completion of a professional accredited Physical Therapy education program.

Successful candidates are then eligible to apply for and take the national Physical Therapy license exam (in their particular circumstances; students who pass the exam are then licensed as Physical Therapists (and may normally use MPT appointments or PT only).
Until the late 1990s, Physical therapy education was structured as a Bachelor's degree. Those who complete the program are eligible to apply for an exam (and then enter the Physical Therapy training). However, with ongoing support from the American Physical Therapy Association (an accreditation organization for all American academic programs of America) a bachelor's degree in physical therapy is slowly being replaced by the Master of Physical Therapy. Physical therapy education is currently transitioning into a clinical doctorate, Doctor of Physical Therapy, with most programs currently offering DPT.
