Songwriting controversy

This song creates controversy over the writing of credit. Steve Wallace, an Indiana songwriter, claimed he wrote "Sometimes" in 1990, but did not own the copyright until 2003, four years after Spears registered the copyright. Wallace claims Spears claimed he wrote the song, by showing the court the possible e-mails of the singer, who said, "I now know the fact that you wrote ['Sometimes']. But there is nothing I can do about it. That's all I can say about it. "The e-mail was considered fake and the lawsuit was dismissed on October 31, 2005, when Judge John D. Tinder stated that the singer did not steal the song.

Music video

Spears started practicing for a music video for "Sometimes" in February 1999. However, during practice, the singer injured her knee and was forced to start a physical therapy session. A month later, Spears released in a statement: "I want to thank the wonderful fans and everyone who has offered their love and support during this time," while revealing that he will not be able to record a music video until April 1999. Video The music was later directed by Nigel Dick, who also directed the previous video for his debut debut in 1998 '"... Baby One More Time". It was shot at Paradise Cove in Malibu, California. The music video was released on May 6, 1999 on Total Request Live .

According to MTV, the initial concept for a music video is to describe Spears on the terrace of a beach house watching a bunch of kids having fun, prompting a flashback of her ex-boyfriend. The video starts with Spears going to the telescope, and Spears is looking through the telescope. The concept then changed a man and a dog walking on the beach, portraying the singer as a neighbor girl, paying attention to his love interest, played by Chad Cole's model, from afar. The beach location was preserved, and the music video tangled with the Spears dance scene at Paradise Cove pier with dancers dressed all white on the beach, then Spears sat by the car. A writer from Rolling Stone noted that the video is famous for "purifying the sexy persona introduced by Spears in '... Baby One More Time' video", while describing it as "a virgin Britney in a long , a flowing white dress (and other polite attire) gazing at the clean boy on the beach, then walking on the balcony with a pink ball, then performing a choreography featuring the dancers forming his heart while he sings that he just wants to "hug you tight, treat you correctly. "Spears sits on a picnic blanket wishing she was there with her, leaving alone." On February 20, 2012, behind-the-scenes video footage leaked online.
