The Llobregate ( Catalan Pronunciation: Ã, [? U ??? 'At] ) is the second longest river in Catalonia, Spain. Its name can be derived from an ancient Latin word meaning 'dark', 'sad' or 'muddy', or from rubrikatus , "red."

Course Edit
Llobregat is derived from a height of 1,259 meters (4,131 feet) in Serra del CadÃÆ', within the boundaries of Castellar de n'Hug, BerguedÃÆ' comarca. The total river length is more than 170 kilometers (110 mi). At Martorell, Via Augusta Roman crosses the river on the impressive Devil bridge, which dates from the High Middle Ages in its present form. The C-16 highway is also known as 'Llobregat Axis' (Catalan: Eix del Llobregat ) for its largest stretch following the Llobregat valley.
The river ends in the Mediterranean Sea forming the Delta Llobregat, in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat, near Barcelona. Delta delivers a vast extend of fertile land close to the city of Barcelona, ââbut is now largely paved, urbanized or covered by infrastructure like Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
Llobregat is massively managed in its lower lane and previously lost water to the ocean is now pumped upstream to increase natural flow, recharge wetland river delta and control seawater invasion.
