Integrated medicine
In 1999, Poweshiek County, Iowa was selected for an international health consortium to study good communities and how to better integrate community resources. In addition to Poweshiek County, other communities are Chicago, IL., Munich, Germany, and Bolzano, Italy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether integrated drugs resulted in improved health compared to traditional medicine alone. Throughout the project, the committee sees all the things that contribute to a good community, including physical, mental, spiritual, and environmental issues. According to the Team Line Up , bulletin of GRMC employees at the time, the consortium "identified Poweshiek County as the best rural site for such a study Community interest in improving health status, strategic location, diverse population, intellectual base , academic and medical resources, and business strength are important factors that support this choice. "
Postel Community Health Park opened in 2001 on Broad Street and Commercial Avenue in downtown Grinnell. Health care providers located in health parks are also believed to provide hospital care. These include acupuncture, chiropractic, hypnotherapy, massage therapy, and oriental medicine, featured in a USA Today article in September 2008.
GRMC operates two training facilities. Paul W. Ahrens Fitness and Rehabilitation Center is located in Ahrens Medical Arts Building on the GRMC campus. The facility provides a complete selection of cardio equipment, free weights, and heavy machinery. This facility is supervised by health staff and medical supervision for rehabilitation purposes.
