The University of Eastern Michigan College of Health and Human Services is one of the few universities at Eastern Michigan University. College was established College of Human Services in 1975. This college is housed in Marshall Building, beside College of Education (Porter Hall). Faculty of Health and Human Services including majors such as Social Work, Diet, Clinical Laboratory Science, Health and Nursing Administration.

History

Eastern Michigan University established the College of Human Services in 1975. The original colleges include home economics, nursing, medical technology, and occupational therapy. To cover various programs. The college was renamed the College of Health and Human Services on April 21, 1982. In 2000, the Marshall House was opened, which is the home of the current Higher School of Health and Human Services. The building is named Everett L. Marshall, Dean of Record and Teacher Certification. In the late 2000s (decades) schools underwent a restructuring that led to the creation of many new programs. Eastern University College of Health and Human Services is the first EMU campus to have a department designated as a professional school.

Facilities

The Everett L. Marshall Building is home to the College of Health and Human Services. The building is named Everett L. Marshall, Dean of Record and Teacher Certification. The College of Health and Human Services is also the first "green" EMU building on campus. The building has many uses of natural lighting and tread ladders, furnishings, and floors made of recycled materials. In addition, tables throughout the building are made of soybeans, newspapers, and wooden pallets. Chairs and fabrics are made from recycled bottles. Floors throughout the building are made of cork straw, recycled tires, and bamboo. The facility features over 90 works of art created by EMU students, faculty, and Michigan artists.

Program

Eastern Michigan College of Health and Human Services is organized by four schools: Health Promotion & amp; Human Performance, Health Sciences, Nursing, and Social Work. The most famous school programs include breastfeeding, occupational therapy, orthotics & amp; prosthetics, physician assistants, and social work.

Nursing

The nursing undergraduate program began in 1973. The program was ranked # 295 in the country by US News.

In 2008, with a joint program with the College of Education, CHHS began offering a Ph.D. in nursing education. The university declared the program "the first of its kind in the midwest". The program aims to prepare the faculty of nursing to assist in the nursing shortage.

Occupational Therapy

The CHHS program in Occupational Therapist Program has been around since 1941. In 2011, AS News ranked # 52 in the country. The PL program is the highest ranking program in the state of Michigan.

Orthotics and Prosthetics

According to the EMU publication, the prosthetic and Orthotics program at EMU is one of two in the country to offer a master's degree in prosthetics and Orthotics. According to the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs; The Eastern Program is now one of five schools to offer masters in prosthetics and Orthotics in the United States. This program is the only one of its kind in the state of Michigan.

Doctor Assistant

In 2013, EMU announces the opening of its Doctor Assistant Physician (PA) program, which is set to begin its first class in May 2014. "Eastern Michigan University is now ready to provide this important training and education through a new academic program - Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.The two-year professional program, which emphasizes basic medicine and clinical methods, will prepare graduates for certification and licensing to train as an extension for practicing physicians.The East PA Program is the only one of its kind in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti area - and one from a little in the state, 'says Jay Peterson, PA program director.

The PA program is a twenty four month, full-time, professional program of graduates throughout the year with students starting as a group each year in May 2014. ARC-PA has awarded Temporary Accreditation status to the EMU Doctor Assistant Program. Applicants must complete 500 hours of clinical experience, and take GRE before applying.
