California College San Diego ( CCSD ) is a private college located in San Diego, California. The college is one of four educational institutions affiliated to the Higher Education Excellence Center (CEHE) in Salt Lake City. Associate programs, undergraduate and master's in health care administration, medical specialties, respiratory therapy, business management and accounting, computer programming, computer networks, and computer science can be completed from CCSD. This college is accredited by the Accreditation Commission of the School of Careers and Colleges (ACCSC) which provides accreditation to non-university post-secondary colleges. CCSD is also affiliated with Stevens-Henager College to provide online education.

Prior to moving to California, the college was known as the California College of Health Sciences (CCHS) and prior to that as the California College for Respiratory Therapy (CCRT).
CCRT, formerly known as the Scottsdale Education Center, originated in December 1971 and is located in Phoenix, Arizona (AZ). As a vocational-technical school, colleges offer several allied health and technical programs. The Respiratory Therapy Technician program was initiated by the college in January 1974 and continued until 1976, in Phoenix. The Scottsdale Education Center became the California College for Respiratory Therapy (CCRT) after moving to California, where it operated in San Diego from 1977 to 1980. The college then only offered the Therapeutic Therapeutic Therapy program. The distance education model of the Respiratory Therapy Program was launched by CCRT in 1978. In 1983 CCRT changed its name to California College of Health Sciences (CCHS).
In June 1996, universities were acquired by the National Education Company (NEC)/International Correspondence Schools (ICS). Harcourt General acquired NEC, the holding company of ICS and CCHS in June 1997. ICS (now Education Direct) and CCHS were later acquired by Thomson Corporation in 2001. In May 2003, colleges were purchased by California College Inc. The institution later changed its name. to California College San Diego (CCSD). Colleges became the newest members of the school family that included Stevens-Henager College and CollegeAmerica. The academic offerings from the college expanded to include degree programs in other educational fields such as business, technology and medical specialties.
Nonprofit status
In 2012, colleges announce their intention to move to a nonprofit status for the purpose of financial assistance Title IV (not to be confused with their nonprofit Internal Revenue status) through its affiliates with CEHE. However, a whistelblower lawsuit filed in Idaho against a collective school of CEHE by two former recruiters stated that they were paid "bonuses, commissions, and other forms of incentive compensation that violate federal restrictions on such compensation." In May 2014 the US Department of Justice joined the lawsuit, stating that from its perspective CEHE "directly or indirectly encourages its recruiters to register anyone who is willing to apply for federal funds regardless of the likelihood of student success or ability to benefit" from the program related school education. The Colorado Attorney General filed a similar lawsuit in December 2014, allegedly "the staff consistently misled and lied to students about school selectivity, the transfer of credit, the work they could earn, the salaries they could make, and more," Although CEHE denies the allegations it as "full of distortion [and] half the truth."
On August 11, 2016, the US Department of Education rejected the college chain's attempts to make its school nonprofit for financial aid purposes Title IV, leaving school for profit for Title IV. In a Department of Education statement, they say "nonprofits must be owned and operated by non-profit where there is no portion of the net profit that benefits any individual or individual shareholder," and have found, in his review, this is not the case. CEHE filed a lawsuit against the Department of Education on August 30, calling its decision "arbitrary and fickle and inconsistent with the treatment of non-profit schools located in the same place."

Accreditation
The Commission for Accreditation of Schools of Careers and Colleges (ACCSC) is a national accreditation organization in the United States that provides accreditation to non-university post-secondary colleges. ACCSC is an accredited institution recognized by the US Department of Education under the provisions of Public Law 82-550 for non-university non-university colleges and the subsequent legislation requiring the evaluation of the agency and the issuance of an official list by the Department.
California College San Diego (CCSD) is nationally accredited. Credits or courses taken from national accredited institutions are not widely accepted in transfers if you later attend a regionally accredited college.
Post-secondary education by California College San Diego (CCSD College) is governed through accreditation, federal requirements under the 1965 Higher Education Act of Title IV, and state regulations and licensing.
Selected degree programs, for example, Respiratory Therapy Programs, offered by colleges are also accredited by other accrediting agencies.
