He is one of only three people who have held the title in both Pride Championships Fighting and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (the other being Mauricio Rua and Mark Coleman).

Career MMA
Nogueira made a mixed martial art debut (MMA) in the promotion of Extreme World Fighting, which often hold events in the southern United States. She won her first two bouts with submission and then won the WEF Heavyweight Superfight Championship in the fifth pro fight against veteran Jeremy Horn. A few years after his MMA debut, Nogueira began training with Brazil's Main Team.
Rings
Ring: King of Kings 1999
Nogueira debuted in Fighting Network Rings by taking part in the 1999 King of Kings tournament. He quickly filed Valentijn Overeem and Yuriy Kochkine before clashing with middle-aged sambo champion Andrei Kopylov. Nogueira avoided a key kimura effort through the first round and controlled Kopylov for a few minutes, before switching to a standing position in the second round and landed a blow to the decision of the split win. In the next game, however, Nogueira was knocked out by American wrestling champion Dan Henderson in a controversial fight, believing that the Brazilian had controlled the game far more than Henderson.
Kohsaka fight
Nogueira's next fight is against Japanese star Tsuyoshi "TK" Kohsaka. The fight was back and forth, with Nogueira repeatedly gaining a dominant position and attacking with a short blow, only for his opponent to consistently turn him over, blocking Brazil's removal and attacking as well if possible. After three rounds, the game was ridden.
Rings: King of Kings 2000
At King of Kings 2000, Nogueira was invited back to the Rings. He handed Achmed Labasanov before facing another Japanese name in the form of Kiyoshi Tamura. Nogueira was able to knock him down and threaten him with submissions, but the Japanese warriors kept defending them and back in the openings. Finally, the second round saw Nogueira win using an armbar.
His third match in the tournament was against another sambo champion, Volk Han, who almost doubled Nogueira's age. Han proved difficult to bow, but Nogueira controlled most of the match. After a kimura attempt to fly by Russia, Nogueira countered with a combination of omoplata/ankle continued, until the game went to the judge's decision. The unanimous decision was awarded to Brazilian players, who advanced to the next round to face Hiromitsu Kanehara. Noguiera wins the battle with submission. His last opponent in the tournament was Valentijn Overeem. Nogueira made an exhortation out quickly and won the King of Kings tournament.
Pride FC
Early PRIDE careers and heavyweight championships
After the end of the Akira Maeda Ring federation, Nogueira was signed by the Pride Battle Championship. He debuted in July 2001 on Pride 15, quickly sending Gary Goodridge with a choke triangle. At Pride 16, he handed UFC and Pride Grand Prix champion Mark Coleman by a triangular armbar.
Nogueira was crowned as the premiere Pride World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Heath Herring with a decision at PRIDE 17. Nogueira went on to defeat Enson Inoue through technical submission for a triangle choke and then fight for UFO organization Antonio Inoki, scoring her first MMA KO victory against Sanae Kikuta.
Bouts with Sapp, Schilt, and Henderson
Nogueira then represents Pride on joint promotion with K-1, Pride Shockwave, against the super heavyweight kickboxer and former American soccer player Bob Sapp, who surpasses Nogueira with 127 pounds. The battle soon becomes a brutal exhibition of technical skills against raw strength, as only seconds into the match, Sapp will stop Nogueira's first uninstalled effort with a piledriver's voice that nearly ended the fight. The same results repeated several times, with Nogueira taking several powerbombs and heavy punches whenever his great antagonist managed to get out of his submission attempt. In the end, however, the stamina of Sapp began to falter, allowing a very faded Nogueira to ascend it and finally deliver it with an armbar.
After defeating Sapp, the Dutch kickboxing champion and former King Pancrase Semmy Schilt is the next opponent. Nogueira scored another victory with a choke triangle. He then avenge his only loss against Dan Henderson, when he armed him in the 3rd round after Henderson displayed a big submission submission for the first two rounds.
Title of the battle
The first Pride title racer Nogueira is against Russian sambo champion and Volk Han apprentice, Fedor Emelianenko at Pride 25. Nogueira suffered his second career loss, a judge's decision after Emelianenko dominated the fight with his typical land and pound through guard. In the ensuing battle, Nogueira won the decision against former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez. Although Rodriguez scored a takedown and retained the top spot, the Pride scorers were determined primarily by "attempts to finish the fight with a knockout or surrender," and some of Nogueira's close-up efforts won him a winning decision.
In November 2003, with heavyweight champion Emelianenko unable to fight with injury, Pride was selected to crown the interim champions, so top rivals Nogueira and Mirko Cro Cop were matched. Cro Cop dominated the first half with his superior blow and a left-kick that left Nogueira at the end of the round, but in the second round, Nogueira secured the retraction and rolled into a bar to hand Cro Cro.
2004 Grand Prix
On April 25, 2004, at Pride Total Elimination 2004, the first round of the 2004 heavyweight Grand Prix was held. Nogueira faces an unbeatable professional wrestler and former judoka Hirotaka Yokoi, whom she proposes with her debut anaconda choke. He then repeated his pace against Heath Herring in the next round to advance to the semi-finals where he defeated Sergei Kharitonov to return against Fedor Emelianenko in the final round. The fight was very different from the first, with Nogueira able to avoid the damage he suffered from land-and-pounds in their first encounter. However, the fight was stopped when Emelianenko suffered an injury after an accidental head and could not continue, so there was no contest. Another fight is needed to determine the champion of the tournament and is scheduled for Pride Shockwave 2004 on December 31, 2004. In a rematch as in the first fight, Nogueira suffered unanimous decisions for Emelianenko after being dominated in a standing position and controlled on the ground.
In Pride Critical Countdown 2005, Nogueira defeated Polish Olympic Judoka Pawel Nastula with a strike, and after this, on Pride 31 he defeated professional wrestler and fighter Kiyoshi Tamura with a second armbar.
Grand Prix 2006
He then entered the 2006 Open Pride Open Weight Pride, progressing to the semi-final by defeating his Brazilian counterparts Zuluzinho and FabrÃÆ'cio Werdum. In the semi-finals, he faces American wrestler Josh Barnett and loses a separate decision, as both landed a devastating blow and unsuccessful effort to secure victory. Barnett went on to face Mirko Cro Cop in the final, sending punches and kicks into the face. Nogueira avenged a defeat for Barnett with a unanimous decision winning in their rematch at Pride Shockwave 2006.
In an interview with Sherdog.com, Nogueira stated that the best moment of his career was against Bob Sapp and Mirko Cro Cop, both of which matched him to win the battle at Pride.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
At UFC Fight Night 9 which took place on April 5, 2007, Nogueira was present and sat at the side of the cage with UFC President Dana White. It was later announced at UFC 69, by White, that Nogueira had joined the UFC. He was promoted initially only as "Minotauro" Nogueira, such as the promotion of UFC Mirko Filipovi? as Mirko "Cro Cop" and Quinton Jackson as Jackson's "Rampage". In June 2007, he formally left the Brazilian Primary Team and joined Black House.
His debut at the Octagon was his third fight with Heath Herring at UFC 73, promoted under various combinations of names and nicknames, but was officially introduced to the audience under his full name and nickname. Nogueira once again defeated Herring, through a unanimous decision. During the first half, Herring landed a head kick that sent Nogueira to the canvas, where unofficial judge Eddie Bravo thought the fight could be stopped. Herring let Nogueira rise again, and Nogueira then recovered and returned with a triumphant decision.
Non-title bouts
The UFC then wants to schedule Nogueira to face the UFC Hall of Famer and former UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture at UFC 97, but Couture must refuse the fight due to elbow surgery in January 2009. Couture then agreed to fight Nogueira at UFC 102 in Portland, Oregon. Nogueira defeated Couture through a unanimous decision. Nogueira showed much better sharpness on his legs, and showed off his amazing chin by walking through many Couture attacks while still throwing punches, eventually getting the better of the exchange as he scored two knockdowns from Couture in the fight. Despite losing twice, Nogueira swept from her bodyguards on both occasions (after some time on her back) to get a full mountain at Couture. On the floor, Nogueira threatens with two submissions, first with D'Arce choking and then with a triangle of arms.
Nogueira is expected to face the unbeaten prospect, Cain Velasquez on January 2, 2010, at UFC 108, but again, Nogueira captures another severe staph infection that cancels the fight. The fight took place on February 21, 2010, at UFC 110 in Sydney, Australia. During the fight, Nogueira was outclassed when Velasquez landed a top-right combo hook that dropped Nogueira early in the first half. Velasquez followed up with five clean shots on the ground, prompting referee Herb Dean to stop the contest, in which Velasquez won a knockout. By then, Nogueira had been eliminated in two of his last three fights.
Nogueira will face Frank Mir on September 25, 2010, at UFC 119 in a rematch of the championship battle at UFC 92. Nogueira withdrew from this fight to undergo necessary surgery on both hips and knees and was replaced by Mirko Cro Cop. He stated on May 15, 2011, that he will fight on the return of UFC to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Nogueira defeated The Ultimate Fighter of Brendan Schaub's alumnus with a knockout stroke in the first round on August 27, 2011, at UFC 134 at his home in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was his first fight in over 16 months (and billed as "fight back") and gave him the first bonus of Knockout of the Night. He celebrates his victory by sitting on a rectangular hedge and displaying a Brazilian national flag with Sport Club Internacional emblem added to the flag center.
Nogueira faces Frank Mir in a rematch on December 10, 2011, at UFC 140. After a close early exchange and plenty of work against the enclosure, the two got separated, and Nogueira shook Mir with too hard a right, jab combo. After Mir fell to the ground, Nogueira went on with the soil and pound before trying the guillotine choke. Mir can get out of this and during the scramble, end up on the control side and lock the kimura. Nogueira managed to roll Mir, only to reverse herself. Mir stepped on his right foot above Nogueira's face and twisted the kimura, causing Nogueira's right humerus to be broken, thus ending the fight at 3:38 round 1.
Nogueira is expected to face Cheick Kongo on July 21, 2012, at UFC 149. However, Nogueira withdrew from the fight, saying his injured arm was not healed enough to continue the proper training and was replaced by Shawn Jordan. Nogueira against Dave Herman on October 13, 2012, at UFC 153. He won the fight when he handed Herman in the second round with the armbar. Done making her her first Handsome Award.
Loss of streak and retirement
Nogueira coaches opponents FabrÃÆ'cio Werdum in the second season The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil. Both of them met in a rematch at the end of the season, on June 8, 2013, at UFC on Fuel TV 10. This Fight was a rematch of their first bout at PRIDE where Nogueria won by a unanimous decision in 2006. After an alternating first-half -backers, Nogueira lost through a hand-to-arm lineup in the second half.
Nogueira faces Roy Nelson on April 11, 2014, in the main event at UFC Fight Night 39. After dropping Nogueira several times with a punch in the first half, Nelson completes the fight through a KO with his right hand. On June 17, 2014, Nogueira underwent a successful surgery to repair a partial ACL tear in her right knee. On February 9, 2015, it was announced Nogueira would replace Anderson Silva as head coach at The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 4 , after Silva was removed after a failed drug test.
In March 2015, Nogueira revealed in an interview with Combate that she had undergone stem cell therapy on her elbows, hips and knees. Nogueira said,
"They have a clinic in Kansas where they work with stem cells, what they do is move some cells from fat from your back and then inject them into joints, I do it on the elbows, hips and knees. Cartilage growth It's a pretty sophisticated technique I respond so well so far, It has helped a lot with my pain, I'm still doing physiotherapy, which is responsible for healing my hips, but I am now doing this to make it stronger. I experienced a pause between my last fight and the Ultimate shooting, I decided to do it. "
Nogueira also acknowledged the desire to fight Frank Mir for the third time saying,
"In two weeks I will be cleared to practice freely again.First, I will get my body strong enough so that I can practice and be 100% ready to fight I intend to fight at UFC 190 in August I want to get back on the final card TUF , but I'm afraid there will not be enough time I'll be ready in August UFC told me they'll put me in the cards in August They did not say which one but I'm sure it will be one in Rio I still have no opponents They say there are three different people I can fight against but I can not comment on that I have no real preference I just want to go back and fight but I want to face Frank Mir again before the end of this year. "
In turn, the promotion was rejected in the third bout arrangement with Mir. Instead, Nogueira next faces Stefan Struve at UFC 190 on 1 August 2015. He lost the battle with a unanimous decision. After the fight, UFC President Dana White said he would no longer offer Nogueira fights, which effectively ended his UFC career. White also indicated that he would instead offer Nogueira's position within the company. In turn, Nogueira confirmed his intention to retire.
fighting style
Nogueira is universally known as a grappler, drawing strength from his Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills. He is especially famous for his affinity for fighting from below, utilizing an offensive open guard with expert skill. The trademark move is delivery like armbars, choking triangles and variations of both, along with more exotic techniques. The game of his land is considered "at a completely different level" of the rest of the sport during his time as a competitor of MMA. Nogueira is also known for her powerful chin and extreme ability to accept punishment, which is showcased in her battle against Bob Sapp, Fedor Emilianenko and Mirko Cro Cop.
