Direct therapeutic exposure ( DTE ) is a behavioral therapy technique pioneered by Patrick A. Boudewyns, in which stressors are clearly and safely confronted to assist combat veterans, and stress-induced patients post traumatic disorder (PTSD), panic disorder, or phobia. Exposure therapy has supporting evidence with simple and complex trauma. The same therapy is Desensitization and Removal Eye Movement (EMDR). The first known publications in book form are Flood and Implosive Therapy: Direct Exposure of Clinical Practice by Patrick A. Boudewyns, Robert H. Shipley. 1983. ISBN: 0-306-41155-5.
It is not uncommon to combine DTE treatment with other therapies.
