Founded in 1951, The World Confederation for Physical Therapy ( WCPT ) is the only international voice for physical therapy, representing over 350,000 physical therapists worldwide through 106 organizations its members.
WCPT is committed to advancing the physical therapy profession and improving global health. He believes that every individual is entitled to the highest standards of fitness that are culturally appropriate, delivered in an atmosphere of trust and respect for human dignity, and supported by sound clinical reasoning and scientific evidence.
WCPT is a non-profit organization registered as a charitable organization in the United Kingdom. Having been in an official relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO) since 1952, working together on a work program to improve the health of the world. It works with various other international bodies and is a member of the World Health Profession Alliance.

Vision and mission
The vision of WCPT is to drive physical therapy forward so that the profession is recognized globally for a significant role in improving health and well-being.
As an international voice of physical therapy, WCPT's mission is to:
- unite the profession internationally;
- is a physical therapy and an international physical therapist;
- promote high standards of physical, educational and research therapy practice;
- facilitate communication and exchange of information among member organizations, territories, subgroups and members;
- collaborate with national and international organizations; and
- contribute to improving global health.

Activity
WCPT provides member services, campaigns to improve the health of the world and generate policies and guidelines. It encourages high standards of physical and health therapy globally by facilitating the exchange of information and generating resources.
All activities are formed and informed by the research.
The WCPT website is the hub of information sharing. The Confederation also publishes various publications including "WCPT News". , a monthly "E-update". , "Policy document". Ã , and "Newspapers". on various subjects.
History and growth
In 1951, the Confederation of the World for Physical Therapy had 11 founding member organizations from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, England, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, West Germany, Sweden, and the United States..
The first international Congress and the second General Assembly were held in London in 1953, in which the first Executive Committee was elected.
Throughout its history, WCPT has developed statements, including the Education Guidelines, to support professional development. It has developed a five-region structure, and a close relationship with an independent organization of international physical therapists with special interests - 12 of which are now recognized as an official WCPT subgroup .
Congress WCPT
WCPT Congress ' is held every four years and has held 17 world congresses since its inception.
The WCPT Congress is the largest international physical therapist meeting. Bringing together doctors, educators, researchers, managers, and policymakers, where the world of physical therapy meets.
Next will be in July 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa.
