Histori

1933-1990: Pelaut

Julius Seaman opened his first shop in 1933 after leaving seventh grade. His company gradually increased to $ 150,000 per year in sales and allowed him to send his two sons to the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania. "The goal [gest] in life is that his children will follow him and build his business," Morton Seaman told Forbes. Julius Seaman died at the age of 48 from a heart attack. She left Morton, the eldest son and college graduate, to help her mother save for business, while Carl, still at school, worked on weekends and during the holidays.

In 1955, they spent $ 1,000 on the first advertisement store. It's a full page scattered in the local newspaper. When sales tripled, the same week the ad was published, Morton decided to open a second store to reduce advertising costs per unit. In 1971 there were seven Seaman stores.

In 1988, Furniture Seaman was taken over in a purchase by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & amp; Co. for $ 350 million, weighing on the company with huge debts. Jeffrey Seaman, son of Morton Seaman, was 28 at the time, but he carried most of the purchasing duties for the company. He and his father developed overseas programs during Seaman's restructuring phase.

In February 1990, four months after a major financial restructuring designed to reduce corporate debt, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts replaced Seaman with Matthew D. Serra, former president and CEO of G. Fox division of Department Store May.

1990: Establishment of Room To Go

After Seaman's father and son left Seaman's Furniture because Kohlberg Kravis Roberts succeeded them, they opened the first To Go Room in Orlando, Florida on September 7, 1990. The To To concept was the sale of furniture throughout the room package. Furniture is offered in pre-designed rooms, targeted at consumers who want to save time and money, without sacrificing quality, when shopping for home decor.
