Jay Sexter is an American educator known for having been President of Mercy College and for his work in developing and expanding the scope of the Osteopathic Medicine College where he is a retired Provost, CEO and Vice President for Academic Affairs. A library in Henderson, Nevada the location of the institution has been named in his honor as having a lecture hall at another location in Middletown, New York. Currently he is a member of the Board of Directors, and is Executive Vice President of American Collegiate Acquisitions, Inc.

Early life and education
Sexter grew up in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. He completed his undergraduate education at City College of New York. Sexter then attended Hunter College where he received his master's degree in social science education. He then completed a second master at the University of Southern California in counseling psychology. After graduating from the University of Southern California, Sexter completed his PhD in Psychology Education at Fordham University.

Careers
After graduating from Fordham University, Sexter became the Youngest District Inspector of Schools in New York State. He is a teacher, mentor, and principal. Sexter continued in education and worked as an Assistant Professor at Fordham University in 1972. He remained at Fordham University until 1985. During 13 years at Fordham University, Sexter received several promotions. He was promoted to Head of Department, Dean, Assistant Vice President, and Vice President of Academic Affairs.
In 1985, Sexter was transferred to John Jay College of Criminal Justice. For five years, Sexter served as Chief Academic Officer, Provost, and Academic Vice-President. He was involved in various studies relating to criminal justice, and doubled the grant fund for research in this field, while working at John Jay. He became more prominent in the field of higher education, and traveled to several countries, such as Japan, Korea, and China, to lecture on law enforcement personnel.
In 1990, Sexter became President of Mercy College. Within a period of nine years, Sexter increased the student population at Mercy College from 4,800 to over 12,000. In addition, he works to develop several medical programs and dramatically improve college lecturing. He retired in 1999 and became the first President Emeritus of Mercy College.
After retirement, the Sexter received a phone call from Dr. Bernard Lander, founder and president of Touro College who sought his help in the development of a medical school in California. Sexter agreed to assist in this effort and moved to Vallejo, California in 2000. While living on campus for a year, Sexter expanded the Osteopathic Medical School and created six additional programs in California. Some of the newly created Sexter programs include Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, and Physical Assistant Program. In 2001, Sexter went to Nevada and chose the property for Touro College to build a new campus. Sexter is very important for the development of this campus. He designed the campus, supervised its construction, and obtained approval for the Osteopathic Medical School, Nursing, Education, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy. He then went to return to New York, where he started another Touro campus. Sexter had worked as a school medical college chief executive in Central Harlem, and then opened another campus in Middletown, New York. He retired at the end of the 2015 academic year, and continues to serve as consultant to osteopathic schools in New York, Vallejo, and Henderson.
Together with Tony Danza, President of The Danza Group and Philip Keithahn, CEO of Pro Growth Bank in Gaylord, Minnesota, Sexter is looking to open a school of osteopathic medicine profits called Minnesota College of Osteopathic Medicine. Sexter and his colleagues are trying to overcome the shortage of doctors in Minnesota by pursuing this new campus. They are currently looking for partnerships with Minnesota hospitals and clinics.
In 2006, Nevada College of Medicine Touro University]] named one of their medical school libraries the Library of Sex Sexter in honor of Sexter's contribution. In 2014 a medical school in Middletown, New York named the main Lecture Room, Dr. Auditorium. Jay Sexter also respected him.
Personal life
Sexter currently lives in Woodland Park, New Jersey with his wife, Eva Spinelli Sexter. Together, Sexter and his wife have five children and five big children.
